New Year, New Drew
New Year, new me! Or, as some sleuths are fond of saying, “New Year, New Drew.” Often, New Year’s means a time to set resolutions or goals for you to accomplish in the new year. Sometimes, these goals can be silly, but most of the time, they are about becoming your best self.
Last year, my New Year’s resolution was to read more. I often set goals for myself, but it seems like most of the time, I stop working on them halfway through the year. Last year in order to keep myself accountable, I downloaded the app GoodReads at the recommendation of some friends I met at the 2023 Nancy Drew Convention. There I was to set a specific goal of 50 books, and the app made a schedule for me and kept track. This worked so well I actually read 105 books! I can still hardly believe it myself! That was probably the first time I can honestly say I CRUSHED my New Year’s resolution. I read so many cozy mysteries and many of them reminded me of or gave similar vibes to some of my favorite Nancy Drew Games. Comment if you want me to make an ASB of my favorite cozy mystery books next!
Two of them were children’s books and probably half were audio books, but they still count!
For 2025, I wanted my New Year’s resolution to be something a little lighter and more fun. I decided I am on a quest to pet 100 dogs. I am sad to report I have pet a big fat zero dogs so far. Two weeks have officially passed into the new year, and it is statistically when most people quit their New Year’s goals. I am on a mission this weekend to pet some dogs and fear if I don’t by next week, I will become part of the New Year’s goal quitters. I wish I could add Ghost Dogs Iggy, Vitus, Xander, and Lucy to my list!
Me and some of my favorite doggos my first summer at HeR Interactive!
But, being a New Year’s goal quitter isn’t that bad. There are way worse clubs to be a part of and in fact, I think this particular club has some pretty good members since 91% of people quit by the end of the year. This topic became a popular one with many of the HeR Interactive employees this past week. We chatted about our theories of which Nancy Drew characters would be New Year’s resolution quitters, and what their goals would have been! I actually wrote an ASB about this topic back in 2022, but I didn’t spend much time thinking whether Nancy and her friends had actually accomplished them!
- Deirdre Shannon: She had a secret resolution she wouldn’t tell anyone about, but when she quits she tells people “Why mess with perfection.”
- Tino Balducci: His New Year resolution was to stop eating fast food but on Tuesday, January 14th a red light traffic cam will catch him leaving his favorite fast food chicken shop.
- Bess Marvin: Bess wanted to become a TikToker who makes Get Ready With Me videos but couldn’t figure out how to post them and George wouldn’t help her.
- Karl Weschler: Karl wanted to put out an electronic version of Raid but lost his computer password
- Red Knott: He wanted to get the word of PEPSOB out to more people but after a brief conversation with a reporter he remembered why he doesn’t enjoy talking to people and went off the grid.
- Charlie Murphy: Charlie wanted to find a place of his own, but after looking at rent prices in San Francisco he gladly quit his goal.
- Jacques Brunais: He wanted to get into a local craft fair with his painted memory boxes, but after one of the other booth keepers recognized him from his skiing career he never went back.
- Savannah Woodham: Savannah wanted to stop ghost hunting for good, but on January 2nd she thought she heard an odd noise in her house late at night and promptly investigated.
- Dr. Quigley Kim: Finally transcribed her field tape recorders but she saw some unidentified frass then got distracted and lost her tapes.
- Katie Firestone: Katie wants to do a deep clean of his fridge but her adhd paralysis takes over and she just doesn’t.
- Chantal Moique: Chantal wants to put in a fancier spa and more health and wellness offerings at Icicle Creek Lodge. She mentions it to Ollie and he has a conniption so she drops it.
- Patrick Dowsett: Patrick had a New Year’s resolution but he didn’t write it down so he can’t remember what it even was.

Stay calm and read on! As an avid reader of many topics including mysteries, I would appreciate your list of fave cozy reads. My only goal is being met now. It involves home improvement projects (but does not include Daddy Drew).
