MID Update

Hey all, we just released an update for MID in our December letter to the fans. Read the full letter here.

Nancy Drew Mystery Adventure Games MID Update

This is the most news that we can share at this time. I don’t have any other details to share, except that we are still working on Midnight in Salem. Keep an eye out for future updates! The release schedule is set to Spring 2019.

This is great, LJ! Will the MID page be updated also?

  2. Carly Lakes says:

Yes finally I’ve been waiting two years for this.

  3. Anonymous says:

Yes!!!!!!!!!!! Finally a mid update to restore faith in old fans (or to make faithful fans happier!!!) I will wait until 2019 patiently!!

  4. Huw Miller says:

This is literally all most of the fans have been asking for. Thanks so much for releasing this!!

  5. Susan Dugger says:

thank you very much for the update, i cannot wait.

  6. Dany says:

    THANK YOU for this!!!!

  7. Sophia K. R. A. says:

Awesome! Can’t wait! This is gonna be a great game!

  8. Hali says:

Will y’all start releasing tidbits along the way now?

  9. Sakura says:

YAAAAY!!! I knew it was worth the wait 🙂 Even though the release date is still another year’s wait, I can handle it! My birthday’s around spring, so, who knows? I might get a birthday gift. Although, I’m not very eager for VR, because I have motion sickness, but I’m glad to see a release date! I bet you’re as happy as many of us, LJ! You have almost enough games, ( for twitch parties ) untill we get MID. This long comment is to express my happiness:)

  10. Rachel K says:

Oh my goodness! I’ve been checking the release date for this game periodically since the October 2016 letter apologizing it wouldn’t be out by that Halloween, and now it won’t even be out for the following two Halloweens :(!? Is anyone else heartbroken?

  11. Dragonwriter99 says:

Thank you! I was so excited when I saw this on the FB post that I almost fell out of my chair. While it’s sad that it’s still over a year away, I am happy that we have a target. I do get annoyed with the people being nasty about the delays – I know from previous work experience that changing platforms is a HUGE deal – it’s not something that can be done quickly. If customers want a good quality product, it takes time (gotta find all those bugs and gremlins hiding in the coding!:). But I’m also excited for the additional formats – it’s exciting!

Have a great week and a marvelous Christmas!

  12. Erin says:

I just want you to know how proud I am of the HerInteractive team for working so hard on this game, and I know it will be worth the wait. You will always have a supporter in me and I thank you for providing these amazing games and never giving up even in the face of adversity. Thank you again, and have a wonderful holiday! -Erin 🙂

    • Little Jackalope says:

Hello Erin! Thank you for your words of encouragement, we really appreciate it. And thank you for your patience and for being such a great fan!

  13. Will says:

It’ll be a long wait, but it’ll be well worth it! 🙂 Thanks for all of your hard work and patience, LJ.

  14. Jules says:

    I. Am. So. Excited.

  15. Jules says:

I’ve been playing these games since 9TH grade, I’m 23 now, and still get ridiculously excited. Thanks for being you HER!

  16. Emily says:

Why is making the game compatible for VR headsets one of the focuses? I honestly just want the game already. I would be perfectly happy to just have the PC game. I miss Nancy Drew and everyone has been waiting for so long already 🙁

  17. Daisy says:

Personally I feel the fans would take this much awaited announcement with some form of substantial proof the developers have made any amount of progress on this product. Even if it’s a single page sketch of a building idea.
You can’t string your customers along for over 2 years then expect them to be content just waiting another year and a half with nothing other than ‘we’re working on it’. We KNOW you claim to be working on it. A bit of non vague (is that a real phrase?) proof would go a long ways towards appeasing us.

By the way, Virtual Reality??? WHO in the dadgum world ever mentioned we wanted that for Nancy Drew? As a forum member aptly stated, we play Nancy Drew for the laid back, uncomplicated style it has always maintained. Bring back the old tried and true PC point-and-click adventure gaming and see if your sales and popularity doesn’t go up. You’ve done nothing but alienate your original fanbase and don’t seem to be drawing much of a new one at all.

You once had a unique thing going in this vastly over complicated world of gaming. You had simple, you had unique, and you had good. now you’re only trying to be like everyone else.

But, we’ve all talked until we’re blue in the face and no one listens. So obviously, you’re not getting another dime from me.

    • Sophia K. R. A. says:

My goodness, Daisy, calm down. It’s not the end of the world.

      • Jackson says:

Sophia you are being rude. Everyone is entitled to their honest opinion without mockery

        • Em says:

What’s rude is having conviction that you will no longer be a HeR customer, yet still coming on here to complain and rain on everyone’s parade.

          • Niobe says:

Sadly, I have to agree with Daisy. She’s right. It has been way too long with too few updates on the game, and HER is losing its fan base. I certainly have deep reservations about who is running the company if this is how they treat their customers.

          • Little Jackalope says:

Hi Niobe, I wish to share more news, updates and behind-the-scenes content as we go. Someday I will get to!

    • Sarah Selhorst says:

Hear hear. I couldn’t have said it better myself. I mean, VR, really?? RIP Nancy Drew

  18. Guest says:

There doesn’t appear to be any mention of Unity in this letter. Does that mean that idea has been pushed aside? I don’t know enough about the technology and such so Unity made be meshed together with the VR concept for all I know lol I just wanted to clarify for myself.

    • Little Jackalope says:

Hello Guest. The information in the previous letter to the fans (October) still applies. We are still using Unity.

  19. Guest says:

Also, as quoted in your October 2016 letter

‘While we have made significant progress concerning the script, character concepts and artwork in the game during the last 12 months, we’re simply not as far along in the overall development of the game as we originally anticipated. ‘

Has the original script, concepts, and artwork from this time all been scrapped and reworked?

  20. Nancy says:

    2019?! THAT LONG?!

  21. Kokokringlecat22 says:

Hi LJ! I found links for two Amazon t-shirts – Persephone in Winter and DED Gummy Bears.

    Persephone = https://www.amazon.com/Mens-Nancy-Drew-Persephone-Winter/dp/B06XKLJ9JW/ref=pd_ybh_a_2?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=MEQ7NSN93A4G2JV7194T

    Gummy Bears = https://www.amazon.com/Mens-Nancy-Drew-Gummy-Bears/dp/B06XJ42GDM/ref=pd_ybh_a_9?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=71VQTM0FWQWA1H76QJQM

    Hope they work! 🙂
    Thanks!

P.S. Thanks for the MID update – I look forward to playing it!

  22. Susan Dugger says:

will the price go up because of the new platform.

  23. Anonymous says:

So is MID at Beta now? Either way this makes me very happy. I hope you can start showing us concepts and little sneak peeks soon. It sounds like a very interesting story and I really can’t wait until we can explore (hopefully!) that burnt second-story library. Old libraries like in CUR and TRT are so cool. And the characters seem so dynamic and interesting. I will wait for it! But since you have a release date, MID must be a good way along. I think that opening it up to various consoles will open up a lot of possibilities and income for the company. It’s a very good idea that I wasn’t expecting. Thank you for all you do 🙂

    • Little Jackalope says:

Hi Anonymous, I cannot say for certain at what stage MID is at, but that we are working on it. When I have more news or insight to share, I will not hesitate to do so!

  24. Trisarahtops13 says:

I just read the letter and I noticed that it said “targeted release date”. Is this not what we’ve been hearing for like four years now?

  25. SL says:

Thank you. My faith in you guys has been restored 🙂

  26. lori says:

We already waited for 2+years, why not release it earlier? Even though it’s targeted for 2019, take notice that your fans are more eager than ever & this series means a lot to them. Politely stating this, but do try release it next year, at least Oct the latest, great for Halloween. If MID is priority, it shouldn’t be much of a hassle and should be kept as a main task, therefore filled with polished content.

  27. Anonymous says:

I never noticed this, but there’s a person watching the fire in the MID trailer. That’s neat. Are they a filler or one of the characters of the game? It doesn’t specifically look like any of the characters but I could be wrong. Just wondering!

    • Little Jackalope says:

Hello Anonymous! This is true, there is a person watching the fire happen – good eyesight! It is one of the characters…. but I shall not say anymore. 😉

  28. Bob says:

Finally! Some news! But Spring 20- You know what? I’m not going to complain, because I’m too excited!! And VIRTUAL REALITY?! This might lead to me getting a VR headset!

  29. Gabriel says:

What’s the price estimated to be?

  30. your REALLY awesome, herinteractive

  31. Taylor says:

I have a few questions about the new game… So, from the letter it sounds as if it will be available on multiple platforms, correct? And for VR, do you, as of yet, know which BR system it would be available on?

  32. Anon says:

So, it’s taking 40 hours a week for 4 years to make a game with 8-10 hours of gameplay at most? Is that correct?

    • Ali says:

Seriously, this isn’t a Bethesda game. Why is it taking so long?

      • Anon says:

At this point, it’s taking them longer to make MID than it did for Bethesda to make Skyrim. Skyrim took 3 years to make, which included them upgrading their in-house engine — a much larger and ambitious feat than simply switching to Unity. There is just no way for them to have been working on a relatively simple, point and click game for 4 years. It should have taken a year at most, with a full contracted team efficient in Unity.

  33. Katie B says:

    Thanks for the update!

  34. freda says:

you do realize this is another year before (hopefully) before we see any results !!! We have already waited over 2 years.

  35. freda says:

you do realize this is still over a year away ?? We have already waited over 2 years!! What is the holdup??

  36. Deana says:

wow, 2019! I hope that was a typo.

  37. Melissa says:

Eh, I don’t believe it anymore.

  38. Carmen says:

Thanks for finally updating your loyal fans. I am a little disappointed that it won’t be until 2019 but bet it will be worth the wait. Will this game be available on PC or just for VR? The concept of the game itself seems interesting but I’d really like to have a ND game that’s set in central/South America. We’ve had secret of Scarlet hand which deals with the area’s culture but is set in DC for some reason. Do you think this could be possible in the future? Xxx a big fan

    • Little Jackalope says:

Hello Carmen! South America is always a possibility for future game locations. However, we haven’t planned that yet. MID will be available for PC as well.

  39. sleuthingmomma26 says:

I have been playing Nancy Drew since I was 9 and now 26. This has been the longest wait ever for a game and I am a very impatient person but I must say this update gives me hope. Hopefully it will be done sooner then the target date. Do you know if they will be updating the artwork or anything on the MID page?

  40. pairamomjeans says:

Wow! I think this will be worth the wait… How exciting to literally be Nancy Drew through a VR game?!

  41. Amy says:

Wow. A TBA date to subdue the fans. Wake up people. They have NO idea when this will be finished. It’s already been 2 years. Something obviously went terribly wrong or set them terribly behind. (Maybe that other game that’s been released?) They are leading us by a tiny string, hoping we will stick around. I will move on to other games. I won’t be back until 2 years from now- Jan 2020. I guarantee we will be getting yet another TBA date by then. I won’t give them the page views until then. I am highly disappointed. Her Interactive has let us down. They put this game on the back burner. Sad.

  42. Sarah Selhorst says:

Why would you reinvent something that wasn’t broken?

  43. Alexandra says:

Here we are in mid march no update since the initial “spring of 2019”. I’m glad we got the update in December (I really am) but with the lack of publication and transparency I would have thought they would have said something by now.

    • Hi Alexandra – More updates to come! Thanks for your patience. We are working hard on this title.

      • Porsche says:

Almost the end of april still no game date come on springs almost over… probably will b another year before its done. 🙁 disappointed

      • Anon says:

Seriously. Are you guys even getting updates from the company you’re outsourcing to? At all? Or are you just gonna let them do the whole thing by themselves without any feedback from you, and hope for the best?

  44. Deanna says:

It’s almost summer…Why isn’t there an actual release date by now?

    • Little Jackalope says:

Hello Deanna, I’m sorry we do not have an exact release date set for MID, yet. 🙁 The team is still working on it.

  45. Autumn says:

I am so excited to play Nancy Drew in VR! It’s impossible to explain VR. You have to try it to really understand how immersive and amazing it is. To actually be in the world of Nancy Drew is going to be so much fun. I am very much looking forward to this release. This is wonderful news!

  46. Alissa says:

    Andddd it’s October 2018.

  47. Anastasia Aceves says:

It’s almost spring of 2019…. the holidays are right around the corner… can you confirm for fans at least if we will be getting an updated newsletter this year in December or January with more concrete news of Midnight in Salem?

    • Little Jackalope says:

Hello Anastasia! Spring is indeed just a few months away. While I cannot promise 100% that there will be concrete details shared about the game, our team hopes to have a general update by then.

  48. Jenna says:

Can these games be played on iPads, or do they only work with desktops/laptops?

    • Hi Jenna – Unfortunately, our PC/Mac can not be played on iPads. However, we do have two games currently that you can play – 1. Nancy Drew: Ghost of Thornton Hall and 2. Nancy Drew: Codes & Clues. Have fun!
