Mac Gamers
January 9th, 2017
Hey all! We published a post for tips on how to get your PC Nancy Drew games to work on Mac computers. Check out the FAQ post here!
Have any of you guys tried this? I haven’t, but it would be really awesome for our fans who only have Macs be able to play the old Nancy Drew games!
Speaking of playing older Nancy Drew games, I hope you marked your calendars. This Thursday/Friday we begin playing Last Train to Blue Moon Canyon LIVE on Twitch! Follow us here to get the alerts and join the live chat, and be included in the chance to win some prizes. 😉
As for the weekend puzzle, it was Braille. It translated to “Focus on being wholesomely smoldering,” a quote from The Final Scene but Brady, as talked about in the last podcast.

It would be great if people with Macs could play old Nancy Drew games! I hate that on the new computers you usually can’t play the really good old games.
Hi LJ! I have been successfully using Wineskin to play the old Nancy Drew games on my Mac and so far the only one I haven’t been able to play has been the original Secrets Can Kill with 2 discs. The trick is in figuring out which wrapper to use!
I’m curious, sometimes the weekend puzzles are posted on the message boards. Do you ever check them?
I’m still interested in playing Midnight in Salem!
They havent realised an offical date about when it comes out ://// its been a year :////
Technically almost 2 years
Hi, LJ!
Had to share – I’m watching the Twitch party from last month and had to share! Someone on the chat pointed out that the numbers in Tino’s phone number spelled out JERK. I noticed that the Sheriff spells STAR, the hospital is HURT and Chantal spells CASH. Very creative people there! I wondered how the phone numbers were picked. Ha! 🙂
See you Thurs.
On March 12, 2015 you posted: “Today’s in-the-office news: We have just begun our introductory meeting for ND#33. We got the overview, characters, story, themes, locations, environments and more from our design team here, and I do believe the artists have already started their research for picture inspiration. Our Character designer has already started on the characters’ looks!”
That was almost two years ago. Did you scrap everything that was completed back then? How are you still so far out from even knowing a release date?? This is getting ridiculous.
Hi Frank, when we changed the process how we make the games (using a new engine we hadn’t used before) we could not get an exact or even estimate date when it would be done. The overview of the game was verbally expressed with additional text to describe what we were making in the game. We have not scraped everything we have worked on.
Hi LJ,
I do not understand this sentence:
” The overview of the game was verbally expressed with additional text to describe what we were making in the game. ”
Expressed to who? You only told them verbally, you didnt give them files with the script, characters, environments, etc? Why are these people so slow?
Thank you!
Hi Jackson. When we were making the games on our old engine, we had a specific process. After the design team came up with the concepts, they wrote it out in text with picture samples from the internet for the art and development team to reference. We would have a company meeting before the art and dev team began so that the design team could explain the concept before delivering the written version, so as to answer questions. That’s all I can share.

That sounds kind of like the creative process that we do! I just graduated with a BFA in Theatrical Design with a focus in Sound Design. The team would always have a preliminary production meeting like that, and then after approval from directors we would start developing the set/costumes/lighting/sound/etc. I knew our worlds were linked, I just didn’t realize how similar the processes are! 🙂 Thanks for the insight 🙂
So cool! 😀
THank you! I guess this means you have a new process for the new engine. Maybe someday you can tell people at what point you are at. I am sure people would be supportive!
This comment will probably be deleted, but why did HeR let so many employees go from May 2015 up to now..?
Don’t worry, Lily, they deleted my comment on Pearl Harbor Day. I guess it was too “offensive” to point out that our veterans matter more than “Twitch: Day 1 ICE.”
I know you don’t have any details on the release date of the game, but do you have any on the release of the official trailer?
Hi Esther! No, I do not know the official release date for Midnight in Salem, sorry!
Thanks for the reply.
Hi LJ,
I was just wondering what games you made the physical strategy guides for? I know you are working on one for Treasure in the Royal Tower. Does that mean the older games didn’t have a guide made?
Thank you 🙂
Hi Alyssa! Physical guides were made for games 6-28. However, we no longer sell those in physical form because most all of them are sold out.
Wait… TMB, DED, and GTH had physical guides too? or just a typo? :’D
Typo! Correction, game 25 was the last game to have physical guides.
What company did Her outsource MID to?
I created a video tutorial for playing the Nancy Drew PC games on a MAC! You can check it out here: https://youtu.be/MUvkbvsSebk
It is very good news for the Mac users. If you are a gamer and love to play games on your Mac computers, then you can play it now. the old Nancy Drew games which were only available on the PC, now it is also available on the Mac computer. so you can install and enjoy playing the games.
Except now they are no longer compatible with Macs that have the most recent update since they have to be 64-bit processing and these are not. Anyone else struggling with this? Really looking forward to playing but looks like I just lost money instead…
I’m following this as well. I want to buy and download but am afraid I will lose money as it won’t work.
