Returning to Our Past

I’m hearing a lot of mixed reactions about the 31st Nancy Drew game. This teaser is found at the end of The Shattered Medallion, and is still a spoiler until tomorrow when we launch it on our YouTube Channel. So stay tuned! Or if you want to leave this next game a surprise, stay away from the internet until you are finished playing MED. πŸ˜‰

Anyways, it may seem like a controversial subject at first glance, and I can see why: it’s dark, eerie, and involves a location that some may define as evil. Let me explain as best as I can (without giving any spoilers) why we are making this game.

The next game will be primarily historical/mythical themed, touching on subjects that even I was taught in school. We did draw inspiration from a specific yellow-backed Nancy Drew book, and yes, she will be traveling to this location. The best game this will compare to may be The Captive Curse or perhaps even Curse of Blackmoor Manor for the history’s sake.

To mix up the different styles of the games, we are shifting from an adventure-style game over to a myth-style game. Have you read the old yellow-back Nancy Drew books? Some books hit surprisingly dark subjects. It’s a part of Nancy’s world, and we want to maintain her style. Some books to look into include (56) The Thirteenth Pearl, (6) Secret at Red Gate Farm, and (46) The Invisible Intruder, just to name a few. While we have the opportunity to dive into different style books in Nancy’s world of mystery, we have the challenge and privilege to unfold the mystery at the end and reveal the explanations for everything mysterious. I think the most fantastical, unrealistic depth we have dived into is showing Nancy’s nightmares and visual illusions, but everything else can be rationally explained…or better yet, left UNexplained, mwahaha!

The next type of game may not be everyone’s cup of tea, and that is ok, because we are just releasing the most light-heartiest adventure ever! To satisfy both types of fans, we create all types of games. Please share your thought on the Message Board under the “Game Rumors” forum…but be sure to put the name of the game and location it will take place in spoiler code until we release the teaser on YouTube, thanks a bunch!

Hi! It’s nice to know a little more. I will admit, the trailer made me confused on what the heck the mystery’s going to be! I mean, you didn’t say the mystery here, but it sounds like it’s going to be as good as CUR and CAP and drawing on rumors of Greek myths instead of on werewolves and monsters πŸ˜› Sort of like Pele and Kane Okala in CRE maybe, but darker? And CUR and CAP are at the very top of my favorites list, so now I’m very excited!!! I think I have read the Thirteenth Pearl and the Secret of Red Gate Farm. I don’t really remember them, but I do think I liked them a lot! I haven’t read the Invisible Intruder. Are these the books you are basing them on? I thought SAW was already loosely based on the Thirteenth Pearl…? Anyways, keep up the good work! MED definitely wasn’t the best, but I still loved it, and you guys are so great at bouncing back after games fans tend to dislike (though I still like them πŸ˜‰ ) such as RAN to WAC and TOT to SAW. πŸ™‚

While this question is out of topic
And I am excited for game number 31! I’ll definitely pre order it no matter what
Ms. Little Jackalope Is it possible that Sonny Joon will appear again in future Nancy Drew Games? Like meeting him personally again?
I loved Captive Curse, one of my favorite Nancy Drew Games
So I’ll probably love this one too! πŸ™‚
    Thanks in advance

It is possible he could “return” in future games, but we don’t have any current plans just yet.

  3. Is the yellow back book you are talking about The Greek Symbol Mystery?? I own almost all 64 of the yellow hardback books. And what is spoiler code? I don’t understand what that means. Also, what game was loosely based off of The Invisible Intruder?

    • Little Jackalope says:

None of our games were inspired by The Invisible Intruder, I was just referring to some of the darker content in that one (the ghosts and stuff). πŸ™‚ Spoiler code on the message boards is where you blot out the word in black so that people can’t see it unless they highlight it. πŸ™‚

I personally enjoy the darker games. They are SO much fun to play with a friend. I didnt finish MED but now I’m curious about the location. I read all of these books and am vey excited!

Hi LJ! After following this blog for around eight months, and especially after this post and some recent comments, may I just say thank you? Even though I’m one of the people worried about the next game, I can’t tell you how much I appreciate the way you ALWAYS handle people “expressing their mind” (which is fine, don’t get me wrong). It takes a lot of humility and determination to be able to consistently respond so kindly, cheerfully, and positively. I just wanted to say thanks for that, because I’ve been working on doing the same thing. Thanks LJ, for being so great!! πŸ˜€

    • Little Jackalope says:

Aww, why thanks Anne! πŸ™‚ And thanks for being such a great fan and for reading the blog! πŸ˜€

I finished MED and I honestly loved it! It’s not like all of the other games, which makes the quality of it totally love able. I’ve seen the teaser for the brand new game, and can’t honestly wait for this new game to have a little bit more information to be revealed. When you said that it’s related to The Captive Curse, but also as the vibe of Curse of Blackmoor Manor having historical sakes, is it going to be a scary-related game? Because those games are my favorite!!!

  7. Dana Girls says:

I’m very excited about the next game. I’ve always preferred the Nancy Drew games that have darker themes, so that wouldn’t be a negative aspect for me.
But I’m wondering- is this game going to be mystery style as well as ‘myth style’, as opposed to MED being just adventure themed?

    • Little Jackalope says:

We’ll just have to wait and see until we share more information in the future! πŸ˜‰

  8. Taylor Bowen says:

Will we be going back in time in this game like we did with Secret of the Old Clock? I loved that aspect of the game!

  9. jadyn says:

So from now on the games will be dark and no more bright adventurous ones ? :-\

    • Little Jackalope says:

No, no! I meant everything for this next Nancy Drew game. πŸ™‚ There will be more adventurous games in the future, to mix it up, I promise! πŸ˜€

  10. jadyn says:

So there will be no more bright and adventerous nancy drew games? :-\

  11. Nesa says:

I for one never like the adventure games. They are so boring and tedious. I for one enjoy a sense of danger and the anticipation of a thrill. I love the darker games, even though they scare me out of my wits. I cannot wait for the next game! I love Greek mythology! It sounds so cool! I’ve been waiting for Nancy to go to Greece ever since finding those travel brochures in phantom of Venice! I so excited!

  12. Christiane Abella says:

I am so excited about this next game because I am learning much about Greek mythology in my Great Literature of the World class at my university. I just about screamed when I learned that the myth with Proserpina was mentioned in the trailer. I just read Ovid’s Metamorphoses and remember this specific myth from it!

Even though the mystery aspect and the puzzles are amazing, I really enjoy all the historical details provided in each game. I surprise my parents all the time with knowledge learned from the Nancy Drew games. I always say, “I learned this from a Nancy Drew computer game. See, not all computer/video games are violent and teach/encourage ill behavior.” Thanks again, HER! πŸ™‚

I have to say, I am absolutely THRILLED about this game already! I loved the hilarity and the wackiness of The Shattered Medallion (and am SO curious about Sonny’s new artifact!), but just as much, I love the darker undertones in some of the other games. I’m grateful that HerInteractive gives us such a variety! I’m just dying to know more about what the contents of Labyrinth will be! So excited! πŸ™‚
