I hope you have all been doing well. As you all know, I am in my last year of college. It has been so sad to be finishing my college years, but it’s also so rewarding. Since I am a senior, I have been taking certain classes that mostly count for required credits and don’t necessarily apply to my major. I am currently in a class about Islamic art history, and let me tell you… I have SO MANY moments where I compare what we are learning in class to Nancy Drew!
From medallions to different mythologies, this class has me thinking about so many fun ND adventures! The class started with discussing similarities in mythology in Islamic culture with Greek mythology, and I honestly had no clue there were so many! Now if there was a Persephone (cue Xenia and her lovely dress) we did not discuss that, however, we talked a lot about Perseus which of course reminded me of Labyrinth of Lies! Made me want to build some temple models or paint vases for Niobe!
Another fun thing I have learned about are important mosaics, which OF COURSE reminded me of the one and only Colin and his love for extraordinary shades of emerald! I think if he took that class it would’ve consisted of him absolutely gushing over every PowerPoint slide (which I’ll admit, I did a bit myself). We even had to write a paper on one of the mosaics and with a maximum of five pages, I can only assume he would be using the tiniest font just to fit in every single word he can including as many syllables as possible describing how magnificent each tile was!
In another class of mine, we were discussing amulets and medallions and the symbolism behind a lot of them which obviously had me thinking of a few games. Can you guess which ones? Treasure in the Royal Tower and Tomb of The Lost Queen! I could almost just hear Lily asking me to organize the amulets while remembering the monkey is the symbol of love (who knew?!) One of the assignments coming up for that class is to bring in something that would make a good amulet because of its significant value to you, and I’m curious if it’s possible to just bring in my entire (digital) collection of the Nancy Drew games? No? Maybe I’ll have to re-workshop that one.
Speaking of learning, HeR Interactive is currently offering 45% off our top 9 Learn & Play games! Get in and grab or gift one before the sale is over on March 28th!
I’m curious if I am the only one in my classes who makes as many niche references to something they enjoy as much as I do? Either way, it makes studying a lot more fun! Let me know down below if you ever make Nancy Drew references in class or just in general! I would love to know 🙂
