Hunting for Monsters on the 13th
October 13th, 2016
Today is Throwback Thursday! We are celebrating The Captive Curse with a one-day sale. This game isn’t in the Halloween sale line-up, so today is likely your only chance this month to get this game on sale. The digital download is 50% today on, when you use promo code CAP50 at checkout. (And you get a free digital strategy guide with the purchase, too!) Shop here. I’m currently playing this game at home on master sleuth. Whoo!
We have a birthday to celebrate!

Hi LJ, wanted to let you know I really appreciate the October update. Looking forward to MID and hearing more updates on the progress in the future.
Maybe I’m blind, but what’s the “October update”? 😮
Hi Natashe, it’s in the News section. There is an October Letter to the Fans there, as linked in the next blog post.
Thank you! I got the e-mail! =) I appreciate the update from HerInteractive! <3
Hi LJ! Thanks for the newsletter! I have a question. What do you mean by “significant progress concerning the script, character concepts and artwork”? I know that a lot of the script and the character artwork were done before the massive lay offs, so what is the progress? Is it the uploading of it into Unity? I am confused. The character voices were recorded before the layoffs as well, correct?
Thanks!
Hi Mary! Not all character voices were recorded for MID, only the few lines used for the teaser. Everything else is likely being looked at for revision to accommodate all the updates.
I read an interview with the actress of Jenna and she said the entire script was recorded and she met all the cast. Not just a few lines.
Hi Jackson! Where was this interview on the internet? I will double-check with our designer to confirm.
Hi LJ, the interview was done over a year ago by an independent Nancy Drew-related newsletter, before the whole switching to Unity debacle. (HeR actually once linked to the newsletter well over a year ago.) Also, the TPS audition listing was found ( http://tpsonline.org/auditions/auddb.php?Aud_ID=24100 ). The lady who’s mom commented on Jenna Ravencroft’s picture that her daughter is voicing the character sort of gave it away as well. The lady (Kiki) also said on her tumblr that she did the recordings over a year ago, and she gives more information on the process in the interview. The interview had a positive tone, no real details were given, and all confidential information remained confidential, so don’t worry. She also mentioned that the lady that they chose for Nancy’s new voice was a talented lady as well. I’m sure that if you do a little sleuthing, you’ll be able to find this information out as well!
Hi Mary, I looked all over for Kiki’s Tumblr interview and cannot find it. I asked our designer about how much was recorded for the game (after the auditions were done) and learned that only what was in the teaser was officially used so far.
Correction: I’ve now read the interview thanks to Anna’s link. I double-checked with the designer, (I miss-read her email), and we only recorded a couple characters. Their is still plenty of work to be done. 🙂
LJ, the interview can be found here: http://iwantakokokringle.tumblr.com/post/128863859428/this-is-for-that-new-game-design-trailer-if-her
Thanks Anna!
It was on a fan newsletter that was posted to the HeR interactive Pinterest Board
PS The person who did the newsletter said they did it with the approval of HeR, too 🙂
Hi LJ
In your letter you say for the past 12 months you have been working on “script, character concepts and art work” but the script was completed and all the character voices recorded over a year ago.
Does this mean you have significantly changed Katies script and that the voices will be re-recorded?
Thank you!
Hi Jackson, I’m not sure what the production team has detailed in the plan. We’ll have to wait and see.
Hey LJ I heard a couple of people talk about an MID update did you finally say if a trailer for it is coming anytime soon? Can you give us any news on it?
Hi Isaac, the trailer won’t be done until the game is mostly done. I haven’t started on it yet.
Hey Little Jackalope!
I just saw that the game story for Midnight in Salem was released. I read it and it sounds like this is going to a fantastic game! I’m so looking forward to seeing the awesome cover art and of course finding out the release date for the game.
Thank you LJ for keeping us all informed about this game. Your the best! As I said before I look forward to more updates soon!

awww LJ thanks for the birthday shout out! and thanks Elijah for the surprise 🙂
Thanks so much for having a sale on CAP today! Legit, as soon as I saw this, I bought the game. Made my day.
I would just like to say… OMG THE MID PRODUCT PAGE IS UP! I know that technically there isn’t a set release date yet, but HOLY SMOKES it’s starting to come together, and I am super stoked! 😀
Keep up the good work, LJ, and pass the same message to the rest of the HeR crew! You’ve got this!!
Just out of curiosity, what’s your favorite Nancy Drew game LJ?
Hi Emily! I have two favorites, a classic ND game, and a newer ND game, and they are The Final Scene and The Silent Spy. 🙂
Any news on MID?
Hi Nancy! Check out our October Letter to the fans, located in the About Us — News section of our site.
Hey there, I’m so happy you’re making progress on MID and that things are moving along. I’m so excited for MID! That being said, I think you need to spend some more time on the product page. The synopsis, in particular, is not well-written. Perhaps you should let someone with a little more writing experience revise and edit it. I’m only saying this because it really isn’t up to par with the writing level of anything else HeR has made public. I understand you were probably spoiled with talented writers before, such as Nik or Robert, but even someone with a basic level of writing skills can provide a compelling and cohesive synopsis. I have confidence in you! Good luck!
Hi Mandy! Everything on the MID page is temporary until the final art and final description are finished. That will be closer to the release date of when MID comes out.
