Working on the Guide

Another “Sonny Speaks” moment for your amusement…

I finished playing through The Shattered Medallion (again) today, to finish the first draft of the strategy guide walk through portion — which is now finished. (That’s the biggest part of creating the guide.) The next step is to write up the step-by-step puzzle descriptions and solutions and gather game images.

While I’m at it, I will be gathering images to create message board avatars in the future, but those won’t be available until the when the game launches around May 13th. Will you be getting your game early from us? Or will you be waiting until it releases in the stores?

As for the puzzle this last weekend. it was pretty simple once you knew what to look for. The characters are located on your computer keyboard. Simply [convert them into the associated numbers on the keys. For example, the “#” is number 3, which is the letter “C”]. Once you convert all of the characters, the message will read [Auction House], something you get to look forward to in The Shattered Medallion.

    When be the strategy guide?

    • Little Jackalope says:

Alex, the strategy guide is offered to everyone who orders from our site. If you pre-ordered MED, it will be available to download once the game is released. (On or around May 13th).

Hmm, an auction house sounds really neat! I wonder what other surprises MED holds. I wasn’t going to at first, but I ended up preordering, and I’m really glad that I did! ๐Ÿ™‚

I do have a question about the strategy guides, though, based on your post. Do you create the entire strategy guide by yourself, or are there others that work on it, too?

    Thanks in advance! ๐Ÿ™‚

It’s kind of a group project. Originally the game designer sets up the step-by-step walk through in a numbered list, and she also writes up the solution for the puzzles. I take all that and re-write it for the guide, which is more wordy and explains in more detail for the sake of referencing the game art and final puzzles. At least 3 people review the guide and play-test it. ๐Ÿ™‚

That sounds like such a neat job! Even though I clearly don’t know a whole lot about what your job entails, the bits and pieces that you have shown us both on this blog and in various videos make your job look like such an amazing one. In a sense, it seems like you get to “live and breathe” Nancy Drew games for most of the week. ๐Ÿ™‚ Thank you very much for working so hard at keeping us fans informed on all things ND. ๐Ÿ™‚

It is truly my pleasure to share with you the inner workings of our office and team! Thanks for being such a great fan, Abigail! ๐Ÿ™‚ Also, just a tease, I do various projects. I’m sure if you follow us on any of the social media sites or our web site, I’m a behind many of those updates.

Is Sonny Joon Asian? I was just wondering cause he kind of looks Asian and also his last name sounds Korean.

I can’t wait to see Sonny! I have a feeling he’s going to be one of the best Nancy Drew characters of all time. Nice job! :). One more week till MED. I can do it. ๐Ÿ˜€ Thanks, all of you making Nancy Drew games possible, they’re even more fabulous than Sonny himself. You’re amazing!
