Gather Your Squad: Meet the Friends, Family, and Rivals of Nancy Drew!

From a narrative design developer standpoint, when we plan a new case, we aren’t just looking at the immediate suspects and layers of guilt. We also look at how Nancy’s phone contacts and cast of friends, family, and recurring characters can provide vital hints, translation assistance, or structural clues. We consider which recurring characters can organically make the story even stronger by appearing as animated characters in the game and, sometimes, by giving players the chance to play as one of them. Weaving in these recurring characters, from the classic Nancy Drew books to original characters built specifically for our video games, is a balancing act. We intentionally bring these familiar faces back to act as a sounding board or even sometimes to completely upend the case, giving longtime players a sense of continuity while grounding new detectives in Nancy’s world.

Balancing the quick-witted conversations between Nancy, Ned, Carson (her dad), the Hardy Boys, and even Nancy’s competitive rival, Deirdre, requires incredible vocal chemistry.
