Nancy Drew Movie – The Hidden Staircase Trailer

I’m sure many of you have heard the news, but the movie trailer for the new Warner Brothers’ Nancy Drew movie was released! Watch it here:

What are your first thoughts? How do you like the diversity of the characters’ portrayals? Are you excited to see this movie? I’ll be watching it for sure, despite how different all the characters seem.

HI LJ! Glad you’re back! Hope you and Baby Jackalope are doing well. Did you have a boy or a girl? 🙂

Hello Sarah! Thank you! We are doing well, I had a little boy named Cassian. He has blonde hair and a sense of humor – so I have a miniature Joe Hardy, really. LOL.

To be honest, I’m not impressed with this film or any Nancy Drew film that has been made in the last 20 years. It seems film makers are so distracted by making Nancy cool and hip, updated and modern for current audiences they’ve forgotten who she is and what she stands for. What happened to her blue roadster, or convertible, or hybrid depending on what book version you read? Why is Nancy skating around on a skateboard? Why does she suddenly hate small towns? I’m still waiting for a ND movie that respects the character and treats her in accordance with the books. An intelligent, classy, respectful, smart yet sassy young woman who challenges us (the reader or viewer) to be the best version of ourselves. From what I’ve seen the 1970s Pamela Sue Martin version and the 1990s Canadian Tracy Ryan version were the best Nancy representations so far (And in gaming worlds Lani is tops). I’m tired of Nancy being treated as a kid’s character, a quick marketing ploy or fast summer movie cash grab. So far what I’m seeing isn’t Nancy.
