August Letter to the Fans

Hey all! We have an announcement for you! Check out the August Letter to the Fans here.

What do you think? Although I am anxious like everyone else to play the next Nancy Drew game, I am extra excited for it to be on a much better engine so that it looks better, has more to the game, and is overall MUCH better in every way. It will totally be worth it. The current engine we have been using to build the games is a really old engine and limited us.

will these new games be packaged in physical copies?

  2. Alex says:

Can you speak at all as to how switching to Unity will affect gameplay? I’m really confused. I looked up Unity and all I could find was that it allows games to be easily ported to multiple platforms. Can you tell us if the games will still be 2.5D or will they be 3D now?

    • Little Jackalope says:

We are still in the design phase, so we won’t be able to share any new until later. Stay tuned!

  3. Emily Kate says:

I’m really excited for all the changes! I’ll really miss having a new game in October, but I think it will be worth it!

  4. Taylor Bowen says:

Will this change the way HerInteractive consistently puts out two games a year?

    • Little Jackalope says:

This year in particular, yes, since we have all the changes to adapt to. Once we get into a consistent schedule, we will know.

  5. NANCYGEEK says:

When I first read it I was kind of scared- but you guys know what you’re doing so it’ll be awesome I’m sure! ๐Ÿ˜€ I’m a little sad that I have to wait until 2016 for the game, but it’ll be worth it ๐Ÿ˜€

  6. Will says:

I am disappointed that I have to wait even longer, because I was really looking forward to MID, but if you say it will be worth it, then I’ll trust you ๐Ÿ™‚ I can’t wait!!! I don’t know if you can answer this, but will you still release two games a year, and the only reason you have to delay MID is because of this new engine?

    • Little Jackalope says:

We cannot release the next Nancy Drew game this year, but more to come will be in 2016. There are a lot of changes that need to take place before we can release MID.

  7. henry says:

i was kind of hoping itll be out for halloween ๐Ÿ™

  8. Olivia says:

I’m sure a lot of people are disappointed for some things but change is good

  9. Lindsey M says:

oh many ppl are doubting the changes that are being applied to next ones..

  10. Anne says:

As excited as I am, I had a mini-panic attack as I realized that neither I nor my dad knew what Unity was. Wikipedia did not help. ๐Ÿ™‚ But now I’ve gotten myself straightened out and am really excited to see how this platform makes the games even more wonderfully and enjoyable than they already are. ๐Ÿ™‚

  11. Princess says:

Are y’all fairly confident it will launch in 2016 or is there a strong possibility it will be more like 2017? Or do you even have a way of remotely knowing at this point ๐Ÿ™‚

  12. Nicole says:

    Hi LJ,

What do you suggest we do in the meantime to tide us over? ๐Ÿ™‚

    Nicole

PS May I please have a birthday shoutout? My birthday is August 23rd and my favorite game is (still) FIN. Thank you!

    • Little Jackalope says:

You bet! Will get that bday shout this weekend. ๐Ÿ™‚ As for the meantime, play any Nancy Drew games you are missing, or if you have them all, do a marathon! Also, keep an eye on our web page and social media pages for contests and fun stuff to come!

  13. So, with this new system you guys are using, will installation still work the same? My computers kind of old, and I was wondering if Unity would make more requirements for the installation process that my computer doesn’t possess.

    • Little Jackalope says:

Since game-making is ever-changing and growing, I can’t be sure what the new game will work on. Sorry! Too early to tell.

  14. Brian says:

Having worked with Unity first-hand, I know how big of a change it is, especially if coming off of the beloved, but ancient, dev platform HeR was on originally. I’m very excited to see where this goes. Do I wish that MID would be out sooner? Yeah, but I realize it wouldn’t be realistic to expect an earlier release. All I hope from this is that us fans will be given a little more insight onto the development of MID as compared to the other games to hold us over. Maybe even the return of the old demos? Hm? HMMMMM? ๐Ÿ˜‰

I kid, but really, I hope that we are able to be taken through all of this step by step; I want to see the company I love so dearly grow and evolve in this grand metamorphosis I know the adoption of Unity will cause!

Love you guys! Can’t wait for more details!!

  15. Erin says:

Will the new games be able to be played on a MAC computer?

  16. Brandon says:

I wish HER Interactive the best of luck. Changing to a new game engine is no easy feat. Squash all of those coding bugs, and develop the quality Nancy Drew we all know and love. Looking forward to newer/more dynamic mystery cases!I’ll wait on a yearly basis if it means a more comprehensive and immersive case!

  17. Annie says:

Will you be explaining more n a later blog post what Unity is, how it will change earlier games and how we play them, if we have to download or pay for anything extra, and if you will be doing anything this winter.

    • Little Jackalope says:

Hi Annie! When we have all of that information, then we will be sharing it with you. I could potentially write a little about what Unity is, though, although I am not too familiar myself with it just yet (still learning.)

  18. Naomi says:

Sweet. This is good, you guys are getting ahead of your game engine, it seems like. ๐Ÿ™‚

  19. Karesha3 says:

Sounds to me this change will be major

  20. Erika says:

Oh rats I was so looking forward to having this newest game in my personal collection, now it looks like my sis will get it in hers! ๐Ÿ™ But I’m glad that this will make the gaming experience better. I guess I’ll just have to either steal it from my sis (which I most likely will NOT do) or I’ll just have to be patient and wait until she plays it then i can play it. ๐Ÿ™‚

  21. Hannah says:

Wow! I’m sure excited! Personally I love the game design at the moment and i’m a bit nervous as to how the new one will turn out, but I know you guys will do a great job and it’s gonna look so goooood!

  22. Sean says:

    Will MID be more expensive?

  23. Erinne says:

Bummer that there won’t be a new game in October 2015 (although I completely understand why). I’m super excited to see the changes though! I’m also going to miss the old system too. Will the basic setup still be a point-and-click adventure?

  24. Andrea says:

Do you have any idea if MID will be released by next Halloween… My daughters birthday is Halloween… And she cried when I told her she wouldn’t be getting a new ND game this year… Is there anyway for us to know if she will get one next year???

    • Little Jackalope says:

Hi Andrea! We do not have an actual release date for our next Nancy Drew game. ๐Ÿ™ Has your daughter played all of the Nancy Drew games? If not, might I recommend Curse of Blackmoor Manor, Message in a Haunted Mansion, Shadow at the Water’s Edge or Ghost Dogs of Moon Lake? Those are excellent fall/Halloween games to play! ๐Ÿ˜€

  25. Andrea Martin says:

Yes, she has played all of the Nancy Drew games, but thanks for all of the suggestions and for taking the time to respond! Would you once again give her a birthday shout out this year on Halloween!? She cried tears of joy last year when she saw it! Good luck with all your preparation for MID!!!! PS: Payton says Good Luck too!!
