Making A Cameo

We’ve got a new contest we’re running this month, check it out!

If you had to choose a character from a Nancy Drew game who is similar to you, who would it be? and why?

Answer these questions in a short paragraph and you could get your picture in Nancy Drew 21! Just email your response to webmaster@herinteractive.com by June 26th with the subject “Character.” We’ll pick two winners and announce them on June 30th. The winners will get their pictures placed in Nancy Drew #21! The rules are listed below:

• You may only submit one entry.

• The minimum length is approximately one paragraph (100 words), there is no maximum length.

• You may only choose animated characters from the game. This means you must have seen them and talked to them in the game. Note: This does not include phone characters or characters that were only referenced for historical elements.

• You cannot choose Nancy as your character.

• You may choose a suspect that turns out to be the culprit.

Good luck to everyone!

When will you be announcing the winners for the last contest? You promised you would announce them in December and we’ve all been waiting and waiting…

  2. Anonymous says:

What do you exactly mean when you say we could be in ND 21?

  3. Anonymous says:

🙂 i cant wait to submit my entry. i think this is an awesome contest, and that there should be more!

  4. Anonymous says:

so totally awesome! im gonna have to scan throught each game to get an idea of who im most like.. cute contest! =]

  5. Anonymous says:

Can we choose characters from Ran, such as Bess or George?

  6. Novel_Sleuth says:

Goodness, so many questions, let me see.

I’m not quite sure what to say about the December contest, I would hope that they announced the winners. If I’m correct, I do believe that this was near the time of the website change, and it may have gone quite unnoticed throughout the changes. I have discovered that there are winners… hmmm…

When we say “in ND 21” what we mean is that the winners are allowed to submit a picture which we place somewhere in the game. S’ pretty sweet!

As for choosing characters from RAN, I don’t believe that is allowed, as you can only choose characters from currently released titles, such as HAU, CRY, or LCC. Since RAN has yet to debut, players can’t choose Bess or George just yet (as they’ve yet to be animated characters.) Sorry. 🙁

Hi Novel! I went back through all the blog posts since November 2008 when the riddle contest was first announced and there has never been an announcement for the winners. Could you or someone else announce the winners for us please? And could you post the winning riddles for us too? Thx! =]

  8. Anonymous says:

Coooollll… i have a question, how will we know who won?…is it only between you guys and the winners?…THANKS! NANCY DREW WINS!

  9. Anonymous says:

Do you submit a picture with your response or do you submit a picture only if you’ve been chosen?

  10. Anonymous says:

So…we can’t choose Bess or George? I’ve kinda seen them. At least…er I saw their feet! In “The Secret of Shadow Ranch”!=J

  11. Anonymous says:

    :/ Too bad Hilda’s a phone character.

  12. Anonymous says:

Couldn’t we choose Bess? We play as her in CRY 🙂

  13. Anonymous says:

Ohh,this is really cool sounding! But,I dont think we could chose Bess from CRY because you don’t really “See” her.:]

  14. Madyson says:

    Could we do Kyler Mallory?

  15. Anonymous says:

So we choose any character except for Nancy and her phone friends right?

  16. Anonymous says:

Whats CRY, RAN, HAU,and LCC? Are they short names for ND games? thnx

  17. Anonymous says:

Yeah I want want Bess Too! REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLYYY BBBBBBBAAAAAAAAAAAADDDDDDD!

  18. Anonymous says:

    I have 2 quick questions.

First of all, do we have to submit our entry with our e-mail address and sign-in name from the HerInteractive website? Or can we just send our entry in with a different e-mail address and give our sing-in name if we win?

Secondly, can we chose to be most similar to a guy if we are a girl? Is the contest based on being like the character in looks, personality, or both?

    Thanks! :]

  19. Anonymous says:

Can we choose any character from any ND game new or old?

  20. Novel_Sleuth says:

Wow, lot’s of questions, here we go…

I’ll see if I can find the winning riddles from our last contest and post them up here. It might take a little time, but I think I can do it.

Generally we contact the winners of the contest after it has come to an end. Sometimes we post the winning entries if we are able.

You’ll only need to submit a photograph if we select you as a winner.

Unfortunately you can’t choose Bess or George for this contest, as we’ve yet to reveal them (in-game.) Even though you get to play as Bess in CRY (Legend of the Crystal Skull,) the rules require that you interact with an animated character, which disqualifies her. Sorry. 🙁

  21. Novel_Sleuth says:

Okay’s, and wrapping up the rest!

You can certainly do Kyler Mallory if you wish.

You can only choose characters that are animated and you interact with. This disqualifies most phone friends, however some of them do appear in games, such as Professor Hotchkiss or Tino Balducci.

CRY, RAN, HAU, and LCC are 3-letter abbreviations we use for the games here around the office. They stand for; CRY (Legend of the Crystal Skull), RAN (Ransom of the Seven Ships), HAU (Haunting of Castle Malloy), and LCC (Lights, Camera, Curses!)

You can enter with any email address you’d like. In fact you don’t even have to be a member of the message board to enter. Feel free to use whatever email contact suits you.

If you are a girl but you’d like to choose a boy (or vice versa) feel free. This contest is about drawing comparisons between you and a character. Unless the comparison you are making is in someway gender-based, it shouldn’t matter.

You can choose a character from any game currently released. This however disqualifies both Bess and George as RAN is not yet available.

    Phew, done!

    Good luck!

Can you pick an animal like Isis, Bob, or Loulou?

  23. Anonymous says:

Are we allowed to choose one of the animal characters, like Isis or Loulou? 🙂

  24. Anonymous says:

But can it be any animated character in any ND game, old or new???

  25. Anonymous says:

Do we have to a certain age to enter?

  26. Novel_Sleuth says:

Hmmm… Animals… Ya know I don’t see why not! Isis, Bob, and Loulou could certainly be the inspiration for this contest. Many animals have inspiring and noble qualities that we may share as humans. Just make sure that if you pick an animal it is one you have to interact with, and it must be animated. So Iggy (from CRY) would be okay, but not the funnel spider (also found in CRY.)

It can certainly be any Nancy Drew game that we have ever made. From Secrets Can Kill to The Haunting of Castle Malloy.

Nope there is no minimum or maximum age for participants. Everyone can enter!

    Huzzah! A writing contest!
And some peope say English class is worthless.

I have just finished my entry and have one question. Will we be able to read the winning entries? I want to see what kind of writing Herinteractive would pick.

  31. Wow! So I have never really been active in the boards but I just found this contest and was so psyched. I already typed up my entry and submitted it! Can’t wait for the results! And I also can’t wait for RAN! It’s going to be awesome! =)

  32. Anonymous says:

What question’s do we need to answer?

  39. Novel_Sleuth says:

    More questions? More Answers! 🙂

    – Well I think it might be a little soon to pick a date for ND21, so let’s just say we’re shooting for this year.

    – The artists get to fit your picture into the game somehow, maybe you’ll be on the cover of a magazine, or a photograph on the wall. The whole process is up to them.

    – We’re definitely going to try and post the winning entries. I’m not too sure where yet, but I’ll think of something!

    – The question you need to answer is: “Which animated character do you most identify with from a currently released Her Interactive Nancy Drew game?” You can find all the important details above in the actual blog post. And the contest is open to anyone, Australians, Americans, Martians, whomever!

    – Even if I can’t post the winning entries, we’ll still announce the winners. I’ll be doing a blog post on the 30th that has will state the winners of the contest.

    – You can certainly make game suggestions at any time, but please understand that we are legally bound from being able to use them. 🙁

    – Don’t worry if you didn’t hit the exact word count. Content is the most important part. We choose “a paragraph” because we felt it was a good basis for exploring your reasoning. Going over, or a little short is completely fine. You won’t be disqualified for a “short” answer.

Woo-hoo! Thanks for all the questions and awesome comments. Cya soon!

So exactly what does “recently released” mean?
Does it mean you can choose a character as far as it was relesed in’09 or you can go as far as SCK? I’m confused!

  41. I was one of the winners of the riddle contest for RAN and sadly, HI never did officially announce the winners or post the puzzles (I checked for it daily). Can I post my puzzle in my blog or is there a chance you will still be able to post it for other members to try to solve?

  42. Anonymous says:

Okay, so when we send it in, do we say our full real name, or just out username? Sorry if this was asked beefore, I didn’t understand exactly…

    Thanks! 🙂

  43. Anonymous says:

Wait! I know the deadline is almost here but I have a quick question. Can we choose Frank or Joe!?! The’re phone pals, but we’ve also seen them in two of the games! Oh pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee say we can pick them! And PLEASE answer before the contest ends Novel Sleuth!

  44. Anonymous says:

We don’t put character in quotes, do we?

I’m so excited for RAN!!! 🙂

  45. celtic13 says:

Whoa! That’s a really cool contest! I’m gonna ask my mom ASAP if I can enter!(I really hope I can!) Go Her Interactive!

  46. Anonymous says:

what is the guys name from crystal skull? Definetly classic moi 🙂

  47. Anonymous says:

Do we send in a photograph with our essay?

  48. Anonymous says:

Oh, I can’t wait for the deadline tomorrow! I’m dying with anticipation!

  49. Novel_Sleuth says:

    Okay’s, here we go!

    — “recently released might be a misnomer” Just assume you can use any game, #1 – #19 or even the casual series, “Lights, Camera, Curses!”

    — I’ve just found your winning entry! And am blogging about it today (25th)!

    — When you send in your entry, just make sure we have a way to contact you. Generally this is achieved by replying to your email directly, but if this is impossible for some reason, let us know. We don’t actually need any other form of PI (your name, your address, a username, etc.) We will specifically contact the winners with details about those sorts of things.

    — As Frank and Joe were characters in both Creature of Kapu Cave and Last Train to Blue Moon Canyon, you may certainly choose one of them as your entry.

    — No, you don’t have to put character in quotes, mostly we just need a way to separate all the emails we receive very quickly. This helps us do that.

    — Henry Bolet Jr.? or Gilbert Buford? Both are characters in CRY.

    — You don’t need to send in a photo. We’ll contact the winners after we’ve completed the contest and request one then. If you’ve already sent one in, that’s fine, if you are chosen, we’ll still contact you and make sure the photo we have is the one you’d like to submit.

    Awesome everyone. Thanks!

Hi Novel! Just wanted to say thanks for holding this contest! And also thanks for answering everyone’s questions! I’m sending mine in today. Cutting it a wee bit close, eh? I also wanted to say how BEYOND AWESOME it would be to be on the cover of a “magazine” in one of the games. I can’t tell you how much I would love that! <333
