Download is too Slow, Interrupted, or Received 5001 Error
Digital Downloads for our games do not use a download manager. This means that it is important to allow the game file to completely download through your browser. Depending on which game you are downloading, even with a high-speed connection it can take several hours to download a 800 MB – 3 GB file.
Make sure to follow the Download Instructions to start your download correctly.
If your download is too slow, cuts out or drops before the file is completely downloaded, or if you receive Windows Error Code -5001 : 0x80070002, take these steps:
• Disable your browser’s pop-up blocker
• Enable your browser to accept 3rd party cookies
• Use Internet Explorer on PC, and Safari on Mac
• Click the Begin Download button only once, then wait for download prompt to appear. Do not double-click.
• Each time the Begin Download button is clicked counts as a download attempt
• If a prompt appears giving the option to Save or Run, always choose Save

• Wait for the download to complete 100% before trying to install
• Download only one game at a time
• Browsing the internet or streaming content while downloading a game will significantly increase download times. Try to limit other online activity while downloading
• If you are on a wireless (wifi) connection, either switch to wired internet, or get as close to the wireless router as possible to avoid a lost signal

Can I download a game on a jumpdrive, to then be put on my computer, or does it have to be downloaded direcly to a computer?

Hi! My name is Charlotte Berry. My older sister used to play these games and buy them the second they came out and I would always enjoy watching her play them or play them myself. As she has moved to college, she left me with the possession of them. It has come to my attention that some of the older games are missing their installation codes. Is there any way I could get a *new* installation code for these sets of games? The game list is a bit long and I understand if you cannot give me all of them.

Hello Charlotte, not all the games were made Mac compatible and therefore do not include installation codes. However, there is a work around to get the PC only games to run on a Mac, using a program like wineskin or bootcamp. I recently purchased a digital copy of The Haunting of Castle Malloy, I clicked download and it says it will take anywhere between 11-13 hours. Is this normal? I understand it may take a while but that seems like a very long time. Thank you!

I bought a PC download of Alibi in Ashes. I have tried to download the game 4 times. It failed twice and then the last two times, stays on 0% for a long time then said it was finished downloading. When I go to install, I recieve the 5001 error message. I have followed the directions very carefully, and don’t know what else to do. Please help!

I purchased Midnight in Salem as a digital download. When I try to launch the game, it never loads. An outline of a creepy, broken down home shows up, but the circle just keeps spinning…and spinning…and spinning. It’s frustrating to spend $20 dollars on a game that I can’t play.

This same thing happened to me but I never got an outline of a house. My screen just remains black with the colored wheel populating every once in awhile. Emailed customer support and technical support and no response. Waste of 22$ when I can’t even open and play the game……

The download manager says the game is at 100% and the run file when done box is checked, but it’s stuck there and will not start the game. If I click Run, it asks if I want to delete everything and I don’t. I just want to play!

Hi, I recently purchased Trail of Twister Mac download, I attempted to download the game a few times unsuccessfully and now get an error message saying too many download and it will not let me download the game now. I have emailed tech-support and customer service and have not heard anything back. I also was on hold for over an hour trying to find a solution. If anyone can assist or point me in the right direction, that would be gratefully appreciated. I love Nancy Drew games and have played all the games multiple times since I was 10!
Hi Ashley! I’m sorry you are having trouble with your download. We are a bit backed up on our emails, so please keep an eye out for that soon! Do you know why the first downloads were unsuccessful? Did you get an error message? Are you connected to the internet via a cable or via wifi? Slow internet can be a major cause for an issue.
I recently purchased Salem at Midnight and Ransom of the seven ships, both downloaded and installed without any errors but ransom of the seven ships does not open. Salem at midnight was really slow to load but once i was in the main game it was fine – any ideas why the other game wont open – i have downloaded it twice and installed it twice..thanks

I am trying to download on a chromebook but can’t because it just shows a download in my files. Then, when I try to open the download, it tries to open it with a sketch app that I have. How do I download it? Do I need to download a download manager?

I downloaded Salem and everytime I launch it take at least 10 minutes to get to the main screen. Then when I’m actually ‘able’ to play it’s extremally glitchy and doesn’t process the game well.

This morning i purchased the digital copy of “The Deadly Device” and while the Strategy Guide downloaded immediately with no issues, the game itself will not download. It’s starts to and after less than 100mb it says the network connection was lost…even though my laptop is hardwired to my internet. I am using a MacBook with OS High Sierra 10.13.6. I emailed support, they sent back a generic message with the same ‘suggestions’ that are on all the FAQ pages and i’ve already tried (yes, my pop up blocker is disabled and i waited a long time). When i click ‘Begin Download’ again, it doesn’t resume the original download, it starts another one, then stops again. I tried to reply to support asking for more help, but got an automated message saying support is only available M, W, and F 9am-5pm. Can anyone help me? please please please! I’ve downloaded ND games before with no issues

I have two questions.
1. If I download Midnight in Salem onto my computer, then someday I need a new computer – will I still have access to download the game again? I’ve always purchased the physical games at a store, so this is new to me.
2. I have a PC with Windos 10, so naturally the older games do not work on it. Do I need to buy them again? Are the old games made compatible with this ability to download digital copies?

Hi Melissa, I recommend saving all the game files to a jump drive or external hard drive large enough to back up your digital copy. That way, if you ever uninstall the game, you can still re-install it. Also, there is a way for you to install the older Nancy Drew games on your Windows 10 PC!
