Can’t Save or Load Games

If saved games don’t show game progress, won’t load, or were accidentally overwritten, a failed installation or corrupted file may be preventing games from saving correctly.

Uninstalling and reinstalling the game should fix corrupted files. Before uninstalling, copy your saved game folder onto the Desktop. Then delete the saved game folder. The saved game folder is found in one of these locations:

Windows XP: C:Documents and SettingUsernameMy DocumentsNancy Drew[Game Title]
Windows Vista or Windows 7: C:UsersUsernameDocuments[Game Title]

Otherwise, check in C:Program FilesNancy Drew[Game Title]
or C:Nancy Drew[Game Title]

After copying your saved game to the Desktop, uninstall and reinstall the game.

Start a new game, play for a minute or two and then Save your game. Load this game to verify the Save feature is working. If it is, copy your old saved games from the Desktop into the new saved game folder.

If it still doesn’t work, then the old saved game file may be corrupted and no longer usable. Unfortunately, if a saved game is overwritten or corrupted, it cannot be recovered. We recommend saving multiple games early and often.

The error message I got was “Unable to create file – it may exist as read-only.C:\ERROR\Clock.SAV”.” I worked around it by manually creating a folder Error under C:\, now the game can be saved… It is pretty odd that the game is trying to save into C:\error. I’ve played every Nancy game more than 1 times, including this “the secret of the old clock” before, it used to save under “my document” or same folder as the game was installed..very strange…(I am running Win7 and Win8, same problem)

I downloaded Street Wars and it plays well, but no option shows to save the game. I don’t the save button, at the top, nor the restart button, at the bottom.

Hi Nick! We didn’t make the game Street Wars, so we can’t help you with the save game issue. I suggest contacting the company’s customer support from their web site. 🙂

I downloaded “Nancy Drew: The Phantom of Venice” digitally onto Windows 10 and I try to run the game but it won’t start, it only blinks onto the taskbar and immediately disappears. I tried running compatibility troubleshoot but it just says it isn’t compatible. I can’t find a way to get it to work, please help!

Hello Domefa!! You can access many controls like saving, loading, exiting, task list, etc. from the Wii remote buttons! Good luck! -Brighella

I’ve been playing The Shattered Medallion off and on for the past week or so, and was able to save and load successfully each time. Today I opened the game, and from the main menu screen I can click any button except for “load game” which instantly closes the window. I can also start a new game, but when I pause and go to the menu to save or load it also instantly closes the program. It worked fine a week ago and I can’t figure out the issue. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling it, but it made no difference. I’m using Windows 10. Thanks In advance!
