Sound Problems

While playing your Nancy Drew game, you may experience one of these issues:

• An error is displayed that says your sound settings are being changed
• No sound plays during the game
• Poor sound quality or sound “cuts out” while playing
• Sound plays very fast

These problems can occur if the sound card drivers installed in your computer are not compatible with DirectX 9.0.

1) Ensure that your speakers are attached to your computer, and adjust volume if necessary. Check that Mute is not turned on.

2) Ensure that your computer display properties are set to High Color 16 bit.

3) Check in Device Manager that your sound card drivers are running correctly. To open Device Manager:

Windows 7: Go to Start Menu > Control Panel > System and Security > System > Device Manager‌
Windows Vista: Go to Start Menu > Control Panel > System and Maintenance > Device Manager
Windows XP: Go to Start Menu > Control Panel > Performance and Maintenance > System > Hardware Tab > Device Manager

Then click the plus sign next to Sound, video and game controllers to view the brand and model of your sound card. Check for alert flags (red cross, yellow exclamation mark, or black question mark) displayed next to this device. If any alert is displayed, contact your sound card manufacturer for assistance.

4) Update your sound card drivers to the latest version. Even brand new computers may ship with outdated drivers, and many performance issues can be easily resolved by updating device drivers. We recommend that you download drivers directly from the device manufacturer’s website (over your computer manufacturer’s website).

You can find brand and model information for your system devices in Device Manager, or by running the DirectX Diagnostic Tool.

Afternoon. I have an audio issue when it comes to Stay Tuned For Danger, whereas everything plays with a static noise in the background. Ive tried muting one or two items to see if its only one thing thats affected or if several combos cause the problem (ie having the sfx on affects the music or having music and sfx on affects the voices) but the static sound is present on sfx, music and voices. I have Windows 10 and a physical disc copy of the game. Also i have several other ND games but this is the only one that has given me this problem

  5. ANerdNamedNova says:

I looked at the video, but it mentions if you are installing a digital copy of the game. I actually have the physical disk, so i am uncertain if the procedure would work for me

Hello, I recently started playing tomb of the lost queen (downloaded from steam) and the first time I played it worked fine, no issues, but now when I open it there is no sound in the game, the volume for everything is turned up. the ‘her interactive’ intro plays loudly but after that, it is all silent. I’ve tried everything I can to fix it but with no luck.

  10. Grace Arsenault says:

I have Windows 7 and I’m trying to play Secrets Can Kill but every time I try to open the game, a message that says “Nancy Drew is unable to play sound for you. We have changed the way we play our sound and now the game is shutting down. Please restart the game and have fun!” But every time I restart the game, that message still pops up. I really really wanna play this game and would like some help figuring out this problem! Please help!
