HER INTERACTIVE TO LAUNCH NEW NANCY DREW MOBILE GAME
HIGHLIGHTING STEM AND CODING SKILLS

Celebrating Computer Science Education Week, Her Interactive Introduces New Look and Tech Focus for Nancy Drew; First Initiative of New Division: Her Interactive Kids

WASHINGTON, DC, December 9, 2015  – Nancy Drew is getting a younger look and a new skill: learning the foundational principles of coding. Her Interactive, an award-winning mystery adventure game publisher and developer, today announced Nancy Drew: Codes & Clues™, a new innovative mobile game series that introduces a younger version of everyone’s favorite amateur sleuth who uses coding to help solve mysteries. The game is being unveiled today at the annual Ed Games Expo in Washington, DC.

Launching in spring 2016, Nancy Drew: Codes & Clues is a fun, story-driven mobile game that will expose younger kids to computer programming principles such as loops, sequencing, pattern recognition, spatial visualization skills, and problem solving while engaging them in exciting mysteries. This is the first initiative under the company’s new division, Her Interactive Kids, which will focus on mobile games and apps geared to a younger audience.

“Nancy Drew is the perfect role model to inspire young girls to take an interest in STEM subjects, empowering them to learn important skills for their future. Over the last 18 years, we’ve been inspiring women to go into STEM-related careers through our core line of PC/Mac games,” said Penny Milliken, CEO of Her Interactive. “In fact, a longtime fan recently won the National STEM Video Game Challenge and attributed her success to playing Nancy Drew games. This and other feedback from our passionate fans led us to create this timely mobile game and introduce Nancy Drew to a younger audience. By incorporating coding principles into a story-based game, we’re inviting young kids, especially girls, to explore coding in a new way.”

“Nancy Drew has influenced girls around the globe for more than 85 years, with books such as the popular Nancy Drew Diaries and Clue Books,” said Stephanie Voros, vice president, director of subsidiary rights, Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing. “In Nancy Drew: Codes & Clues, Her Interactive gives Nancy Drew a cool, tech-savvy look, and weaves the iconic and adventurous brand with important STEM skills to empower girls to learn at a young age.”

Nancy Drew: Codes & Clues is not only about technology and games, it’s also about the music. The mobile game will introduce a new song about Nancy Drew composed by a student from the Berklee College of Music. Her Interactive is partnering with Berklee and DMI Music & Media (DMI) for a songwriting contest to encourage student songwriters to create an original song for the game. For more information about the contest, go to www.herinteractive.com/berklee. The winning songwriter will work with DMI CEO Tena Clark, producer of Grammy award winning
albums and songs, at DMI’s Firehouse Recording Studio in Los Angeles to produce a fully mixed and mastered version of the new song for the mobile game.

“Music has become such an integral part of the gaming experience. It’s hard to imagine a movie without a soundtrack, and now games are no different,” said Bonnie Hayes, chair, Songwriting Department at Berklee College of Music. “Here at Berklee, our Women, Technology and Creativity program highlights the application of computer science in creating music. Her Interactive is providing one of our students an incredible opportunity to create an original piece to add emotion and excitement to the mobile game and bring an iconic character to life.”

To introduce the younger version of Nancy Drew and the new mobile game, Her Interactive today released the first of a series of animated shorts leading up to the spring 2016 launch. These shorts debut the iconic detective and her friends, Bess and George, solving mysteries and helping others as they find “Codes & Clues” along their way. Watch the first short on the Her Interactive YouTube channel here and at www.herinteractive.com.

Nancy Drew: Codes & Clues will be available spring 2016 for iOS and Android devices. More information about the game will be announced leading up to the launch.
