HI: You use the sales
of your designs toward a good cause. Can you tell me a little more about
the Healing History Project?
Molly: The Lakota part of the Sioux Indian nation have the
highest suicide among teenagers in the U.S. It’s such a small group of
people, so every loss is extremely devastating. We’re creating
sustainable structures that support the community so it’s no longer
happening. By adopting current successful models and bringing in the
native values of the Lakota, we’re able create something that’s more
meaningful to our people. There’s a history behind the nation and a huge
wound that hasn’t healed. It’s causing a lot of pain. The Healing
History Project aims to heal history, so people can own it, complete it,
and move beyond it. By starting with a small reservation, and moving to
the entire country, we would like to be able to change the world.

HI: It’s amazing that one t-shirt can do so much. Speaking of
t-shirts, vintage printed tees are really hot right now. What fashion
trends are you guys digging?
Mark: I love that t-shirts and apparel are using all kinds of new
material, especially the new mylar ink that produces a rainbow effect.
Elastic metallic glittery gold is also exciting. Someone should do puffy
paint right too. I’d be happy if I never saw another trucker hat again!
Molly: I like the colors for this season – the bright pinks,
blues, and orange. There’s also a lot of repurposing colors from past
eras, such as the Alexander Julian palette (teal, purple, pink) that
looks so fun when it’s updated with a twist.
HI: To go along with all these trends you guys are talking about,
what do you think Nancy Drew would wear from your collection?
Mark: Well, that depends on the situation. If she’s on the job
and needs something for sleuthing and sneaking around, the Mystery Girls
shirt would be the best. If Nancy has just cracked the case, she’d wear
the Spy Girl RAWK! shirt to celebrate. |
