HI
HI: And what a great idea to start! Where did you come up with the idea for the name Danger Wear Design? It almost seems like it was meant for Nancy – both fashionable and adventurous!

Molly: Well, one day when I was training for the swimming portion of the triathlon, I was wearing this horrible wet suit that didn’t fit me. My trainer said, “If you had a wetsuit that fit you, you’d be dangerous!” I took that to mean being out on the edge and having fun with it. Hence our tag line, “So fun - it’s dangerous.”

Mark: I’d just like to say that Molly is tall and gorgeous, and runs an 8 minute mile. The trainer meant ‘dangerous’ as in cute!

Molly: That’s not true. I do not run an 8 minute mile!

Mark: Well, she’s working toward it. Her trainer also meant that if she had the right gear, it would help her performance a lot. Her times would be frightening and she’d be a threat to the coach. A threat to men! And a threat to the water!

HI: Let’s talk a little about the clothes that you design. Couture is often inspired by things in the world around us. For instance, one of the characters in Danger by Designs chose Little Red Riding Hood, Leprechauns, and birds for inspiration. Where do you draw your inspiration from?

Mark: I look at other designs as I mentioned earlier. Food toys, CDs, apparel, games. Everything in the 60s pop culture movement, because it’s bright, contrasting, and sharp.

Molly: Things that are wearable and comfortable. And words. We like to find catchy phrases and design a t-shirt around it. For example, “spy girl.” It sends a positive message for girls and allows people to express who they are. We also have a Math SuperStar! shirt.
