A Little Detective Work

I see our fans have been very busy figuring out all the clues we've left for you to find. :)
Congratulations on finding the ICE page. However, I must say that the box is only a mock up. The real box doesn't look like that. You're still going to have to wait a little bit.

You guys also did a great job of figuring out the title for ND17. However, I'm curious to if anyone understood the code. What did AELMP have to do with the letters below and how did you solve the code? So, email feedback@herinteractive.com with you answers. Three random CORRECT answers will receive Season One of the Nancy Drew TV series. Emails must be received by 4/6.

March Newsletter Addendum

After I sent out the March newsletter, Mark, one of our artists emailed me to set the record straight about how art is REALLY created. The artists use a lot more than just Photoshop for their work. What he told me was great information for anyone interested in becoming a graphics artists in the entertainment industry - I had to share it with you guys!

"PhotoShop is just half of the software we use. Since PhotoShop doesn’t create the 3D graphics, we use a program called 3D Studio Max from a company called Autodesk. The other half of our art team uses this software. PhotoShop is only used to create materials and do touch ups. That is a big task but it is only half of what we do.

If I had to put it in terms of the article I would say “our 2D artists come up with a flat sketch based on the designer’s idea. Then the 3D artists translate that to 3D and it looks a bit like an uncolored page in a coloring book. The 3D and 2D artists work together to fill in the colors and textures”.
There is even a 3rd branch of the art team, “animation” that uses 3D Studio Max to bring our characters and scenes together. "

You learn new things every day. Today is no exception for me.

P.S. Ayu - thanks for the Lobby sketch in the newsletter!

Guess who?

Can you guess who said what?

Quote:
1) "Well, just keep poking around. If something’s got a front door, it’s usually got a back door, too."

2) "Nancy Drew shall not pass unless and until she proves herself worthy!"

3) "I’m the new maid."

4) "Brown. My ex-husband used to say that they reminded him of café au lait. {adding}Of course, I later found out that he hated coffee, so I was never sure if that was a compliment or not."

5) "I insist that if and when you’re stumped about something, you ask Tino to help you out. That’s what I’m paying him for. Agreed?"

Case Closed Winner

We had so many great ideas from you guys that really inspired us! It was so hard to pick just one to win our Nancy Drew cell phone charm! We'll have more contests with more prizes, so don't worry if we didn't pick your idea this time.

And our winner is Dangerdesigner7 for her MadLibs plot idea:

"I think a good Idea to make people get even more excited, is to post mad libs on the website, evry week or every other week that people can solve, by leaving out key words, people will be able to interpret for themselves the outcome of the game and be able to get little clues as to what the game will be like and hat some small elements are that make up the game, but very small ones, not so much to give away something specific and crucial, just something to make us imagine! "

Congratulations Dangerdesigner7!

Perspective

I've certinally received an earful about getting rid of the books - I'm glad you guys care enough to write us!

A lot of people said that it was their favorite part of the game, a tradition that they loved, especially the music. It's understandable that you're upset that we changed something that you've become so used to, but honestly, using the books as a seperate menu screen is a very outdated and clunky way to design a game. Our long-time fans may be used to this backwards design, but newcomers find it very difficult and counter-intuitive. This way, it's less buttons to click and you start your game faster.

We wanted to integrate everything together to give the player a more realistic experience, so you never feel like you're leaving Nancy's current case. Now you'll be able to walk around with your inventory, task list, or journal open. How cool is that? You can always see the tools you have to solve the case. You'll also be able to see what Nancy's wearing since she needs to wear special clothes to go certain places. That's just a bonus though.

The designers at Her Interactive wanted to update the game and make it better for you. We did not cut down on the time we spent making the game. On the contrary, we have been listening to your feedback, and we've been working very hard to try to make this game more like the older games you know and love - with plot twists, snooping, and challenging puzzles.

Although you might not have asked us to update the UI, we felt that we needed to improve the gameplay drastically. A seperate team was devoted to the UI, so the actual game was not compromised. Once you play the game, write us and tell us what you think of the new UI, along with all of your suggestions and feedbakc. I think you'll like it, even if it is different.
