Perspective
I've certinally received an earful about getting rid of the books - I'm glad you guys care enough to write us!
A lot of people said that it was their favorite part of the game, a tradition that they loved, especially the music. It's understandable that you're upset that we changed something that you've become so used to, but honestly, using the books as a seperate menu screen is a very outdated and clunky way to design a game. Our long-time fans may be used to this backwards design, but newcomers find it very difficult and counter-intuitive. This way, it's less buttons to click and you start your game faster.
We wanted to integrate everything together to give the player a more realistic experience, so you never feel like you're leaving Nancy's current case. Now you'll be able to walk around with your inventory, task list, or journal open. How cool is that? You can always see the tools you have to solve the case. You'll also be able to see what Nancy's wearing since she needs to wear special clothes to go certain places. That's just a bonus though.
The designers at Her Interactive wanted to update the game and make it better for you. We did not cut down on the time we spent making the game. On the contrary, we have been listening to your feedback, and we've been working very hard to try to make this game more like the older games you know and love - with plot twists, snooping, and challenging puzzles.
Although you might not have asked us to update the UI, we felt that we needed to improve the gameplay drastically. A seperate team was devoted to the UI, so the actual game was not compromised. Once you play the game, write us and tell us what you think of the new UI, along with all of your suggestions and feedbakc. I think you'll like it, even if it is different.
