So no has quite figured out the DAN clues. You'll find a hint in tomorrow's newsletter if you look carefully.
We know what the characters in our next game will look like; tomorrow our choices will determine what they'll sound like. Happy, sad, angry, glad -- animation can only do so much to communicate a character's mood. The voice is what brings him or her to life. In fact, our auditions catch a lot of people by surprise. Having a nice voice, or exactly the right voice (young, old, mousy, bold) isn't enough. The ability to act is absolutely imperative. Delivery is everything. It's like playing a part in a radio drama. People must be willing to ham it up, to read their lines any number of different ways, to really understand the lines they're saying. I wouldn't wish the life of an actor on anyone. But I have to say, there are few things more exciting than being in a recording session with a truly good one.
Since we've been so out of commission lately, I guess I should offer some clue about DAN. And what could be my most favoritest topic to write about? Yes, the good old 'oeuf des Paques'.
Sorry for the paucity of content, but our heads have been so so buried in the sand like ostriches seeking refuge from the equatorial heat. We're very excited, not only for DAN but for our little holiday from the drudgery and creative chaos of making Nancy Drew games. Some of us lucky guys and gals get to go to the premiere Game Developer's conference in San Jose, California.
