Designing Icicle Creek Lodge
Newsletter subscribers only

In this special edition of the Nancy Drew® newsletter, we go behind the scenes of The White Wolf of Icicle Creek and take a look at how environments are designed.

First, the game designer decides on a place and then describes an overall feel for the artists to create.  The Lobby "should have a mineralogical, wood and animal theme reflecting the resources that were important for Trapper Dan. Consider having leather, lampshades made of skin, antlers, pine, etc."

Next, the designer lists objects and people that are in the Lobby. The list can be fairly detailed because the player will need to interact with the items or find clues in the environment.  Items in the Lobby include: old coats, stuffed animals, love letters, a computer, thermometer, pyramid puzzle, and bird watching information.

Then the artists work their magic using Photoshop to create Nancy's world. Katharina made a Lobby that "has lots of unique furniture and custom-made textures to a give warm and cozy atmosphere against a snowy outside" and Travis said, "There's a really warm feel to it, especially with the fire burning in the fireplace. It looks like it would be a great place to curl up with a book when it's cold outside."

While you're waiting for Nancy's next adventure, meet Alice Field.  She's the new girl in town. Alice travels the world with her family, and every new year finds them in a different country.  Alice doesn't go to school - she and her parents often live in remote places where there is no school for Alice to attend!  Instead, she is home schooled by her mum, Ming.  She spends lots of time on her own, dreaming, drawing, exploring.  One day, Alice's dad goes missing! Will Alice and her mum be able to find him?  Find out in 'Inanimate Alice, Episode 1: China.'
The team behind ‘Inanimate Alice’ is offering exclusive free bonus materials to Nancy Drew newsletter readers. These include screensavers and wallpapers for your computer.
