HER INTERACTIVE SHIPS NANCY DREW: THE SECRET OF SHADOW RANCH
PC Game Based on Best-Selling Nancy Drew Novel of All Time Hits Retail Stores Nationwide
 

BELLEVUE, Wash., July 20, 2004 – Her Interactive today announced the shipment of Nancy Drew: The Secret of Shadow Ranch to retail stores nationwide. The game is the tenth installment in the award-winning Nancy Drew CD-ROM mystery series. Targeted at mystery and adventure fans ages 10 and up, Nancy Drew: The Secret of Shadow Ranch is priced at MSRP $19.99 and carries an ESRB rating of “E” (Everyone).

The game is based on the 1931 novel of the same name, the best-selling Nancy Drew title of all time. Nancy Drew: The Secret of Shadow Ranch also marks the first of the original “yellow-spine” book series to be turned into an interactive game.

The first-person game puts players in the shoes of teenage super-sleuth Nancy Drew. With good intentions of taking a long overdue vacation at Shadow Ranch in Arizona, Nancy quickly finds herself involved in a baffling mystery. The ranch has been maliciously damaged and is being haunted by a phantom horse. The local townspeople believe the ghostly animal is carrying out the curse of Dirk Valentine, a romantic outlaw who was hanged for his crimes before he could fulfill a promise to his sweetheart.  Based on a rumor that a treasure was hidden on the grounds by Valentine, Nancy turns
her focus to that critical clue as she embarks on a challenging search for answers through a land full of rattlesnakes, hidden mineshafts and crumbling ghost towns.

Nancy Drew: The Secret of Shadow Ranch will introduce a completely redesigned user interface, including a larger game screen. The game will offer more than 20 hours of sleuthing in expansive and graphically-stunning outdoor environments. Both new and seasoned detectives will enjoy the experience based on the difficulty setting they choose
as well as the ability to exercise the “Phone a Friend” or “Second Chance” features allowing players to seek help or take risks without having to restart the game from the beginning. Players will also be excited about the ability to tap an in-game cell phone, the Internet and email.

In related news, Nancy Drew: Danger on Deception Island, released in fall 2003, was recently honored with a Parents’ Choice Gold Award. That marks the eighth consecutive Gold Award presented by the Parents’ Choice Foundation to Her Interactive for titles within the Nancy Drew game series.
